Medical Massage

The focus of medical massage is a health related recovery dealing with specific injuries or conditions. This treatment is billed to coverage provided under some form of an insurance plan, i.e. Auto ins. (P.I.P.), L&I(wkrs. comp.), and other types of health plans. Often the massage therapist will work in conjunction with either a DC, MD, ND or OD.

Most health insurance plans now recognize massage for promoting wellbeing, along with its’ beneficially curative aspects as a therapeutic modality. Many of the remedial effects of massage, long recognized by personal and clinical experience are now scientifically supported. In addition to the commonly known benefits of relaxation, improved circulation and relief form muscle tension, new applications for medical massage are surfacing in areas related to mental and emotional well-being, infant care, sleep disorders, aging, improved digestive & immune functioning, alleviation of persistent problem conditions and performance goals.

In general, massage supports health by improving the circulation of blood & lymph, immune functioning, assisting in healing or relaxing muscles, improving joint mobility & increasing energy. Massage is long known to alleviate problem conditions of tension headaches, aches & pains, poor circulation, seasonal affective disorders (S.A.D.), stress & anxiety while combating the negative effects of aging by enhancing tissue elasticity, blood, lymph circulation & joint mobility.

Medical massage often incorporates active client participation.   Clients are frequently engaged in corrective Range-Of-Motion (ROM) stretches, resistive and strengthening techniques.   Often client home care is suggested to continue the rehabilative process between visits.  The goal of medical Massage is to 1st provide relief for the client , and 2nd support the clients healing as quickly as possible.
